Programs and Services
The Law Library is staffed by experienced law librarians who can assist you with print and online legal resources. You may visit in person, call, or email them. The law librarians do not give legal advice but can help you conduct legal research.
First Thursdays at the Law Library
This program offers residents of Marin the opportunity to learn about the numerous service agencies and county departments that provide resources and help to the public at no or low cost. Speakers will present information about their organization followed by a question and answer period. Get to know your local officials and community service agencies. Lawyers in the Library
The Marin County Law Library in collaboration with the Marin County Bar Association support Lawyers in the Library, a community program offering free 20 minute consultations with an attorney for self-represented litigants. For details click here (English) or here (Spanish).
The Law Library provides a conference room so patrons may meet with clients in a private room, hold meetings and conduct depositions. The conference room may be rented for $30 an hour or $150 for the full day. Click here, and fill in our contact form to make a reservation. Conference room is shown at left. The Law Library provides access to WestlawNext, an online research service that contains numerous secondary sources and all state and federal cases and codes. The Law Library staff can assist patrons in refining their searches in order to effectively locate the law they need.
Wireless Internet Access
The Law Library offers free wireless Internet access. With wireless-ready laptops, patrons can access the Internet, consistent with our Computer and Internet Policy. The Law Library's wireless network utilizes the Wi-Fi standard.
Patrons can send and receive faxes at the Law Library. The cost of sending a fax is $1.00 per page. The cost of receiving a fax at the Law Library is $1.00 per page. Patrons wishing to receive a fax should contact us at (415) 472-3733
USB Drives and CDs
Patrons can save information from the Law Library's public computers onto USB drives, but must provide their own USB drive as the Law Library does not sell them.
Photocopier and Scanner
The Law Library provides photocopiers and printers for patron use. Patrons may purchase a copy card in any amount to use these services. Copies are $0.20 per page for black and white prints from the computers, $0.20 per page for copies and prints made on the black and white copy machine. Patrons may also access scanning services at the front desk at a cost of $1.00 per page.
MCLL provides individual academic proctoring. We will work with you and your educational institution to make sure your testing requirements are met.
